Something delicate, pretty… and down to Earth

Down to Earth” was one of those phrases that I really had trouble understanding, when I moved to the US.

It’s one of those things that doesn’t really translate very well, I guess.

Hmm…scratch that. It actually doesn’t translate at all.

Fun fact: when I moved to the US, I’d watch reality TV in order to learn English (like ANTM, back in the day when it was the sh*t). Well..okay, I knew some English, but I was so embarrassed about having an accent or getting something wrong, that I barely spoke during my Sophomore year in High School. I’m convinced that some of my teachers thought I was a mute (some of them seemed to raise their voice when speaking to me, as if that would make me understand them better?).

Then, of course, there was that time when I went out to lunch with my boyfriend (now husband) and enthusiastically replied “yes!” when a waitress asked me whether I’d like to start with a soup or a salad. She asked the question twice. Both times, I gave the same answer. *Facepalm*

Ahh.. the good old times. I actually used to carry a polish-english dictionary with me wherever I went (this was pre-smarphone times, okay kids?).

So.. down to Earth. First few things that come to mind: practical and.. natural perhaps? Which is exactly how I feel about these Down to Earth palettes from The Body Shop.*

Down to Earth palettes from The Body Shop

These three that I have here are:

Down to Earth Eyeshadow Quad Brown features 4 neutral eyshadow shades, inspired by nature: Oregon Sunstone, Peru Clay, Sienna Dust, Idaho Jasper.

Down to Earth Eyeshadow Quad Gold features 4 neutral eyshadow shades, inspired by nature: Sahara Dune, Aztec Gold, Essaouria Bronze, Amazonian Earth.

Down to Earth Eyeshadow Quad Grey features 4 neutral eyshadow shades, inspired by nature: Shades: India Rose Quartz, Atlas Rhassoul, Cerro Rico Silver, Siberia Anthracite.

Few things to love: nice pigmentation, minimal fallout, gorgeous packaging (you can actually mix and match these as the pans are removable and pop in and out very easily) and they’re pretty long-lasting and don’t crease throughout the day, even when used without a primer. They also blend very well and are 100% vegan.

Down to Earth quads in Gold, Brown and Grey

While these swatches might look nice and intense, if you love a good smokey eye, you might need to put some extra effort in, while layering these on. The formula is really nice and I’m so happy that the pigmentation seems to be consistent with these. I do think that these palettes are perfect for “everyday” use, or for someone who doesn’t like to wear eye makeup that’s too intense. Like I said, these really are down-to-earth: super practical and easy to get a long with if you like something that’s subtle and quick to work with.

So, if you’re a hard-core makeup junkie who loves dramatic and intense looks, you probably won’t love these. BUT, if you like something natural, delicate and functional for creating a quick look, these are for you.

I identify myself with what you said at the begining of this post. I moved to UK this year and my english was very rusty so sometimes I find myself saying “yes” and smiling when people talk to me (I always hope that’s the right answer!).
    Love the palettes!!

Haha that is so true! I used to do the same thing, just say “yes” and hoped for the best ;)

So pretty! I love your personal story — that’s so cute, and also shows how far you’ve come! I used to be a huge fan of The Body Shop, and I’m increasingly getting into their newer stuff… and these look especially tempting. :)

Thank you so much Steph! I haven’t used their products for years, until earlier this year and fell with them all over again :)

These are so pretty…I mean they could have worked on the names a bit more, but I love Brown! Great daily palette.

These are so pretty! I really like the brown quad, the body shop is doing really well with their new collection I feel like. First the eyeshadow sticks and now this, it’s amazing.

Wow… I really didn’t realise you weren’t a first language english speaker! I am very very monolingual – I find it hard to pick up language easily – so I’m always really impressed and admire those who manage to learn a second, third, fourth language.

I love the brown palette. I think I may have to add it to my Christmas list! Thanks for the review :)

I’m the opposite, I learn languages very fast, although moving to a different country you kind of have no other choice haha :) I’m using this cool app Duolingo to refresh my Spanish right now, it’s really easy follow ;)

I graduated from a super fancy international school where I would speak English 24/7 and have all my exams in English, and yet when I came over to the UK to study, I spent my first few weeks just watching people speak as there was no way I could catch up. Ah, good old times. I don’t believe that all people actually do not go through that awkward stage ;)

I took private English lessons back in Poland in addition to taking both English and German in school but in all honesty, it all went out the window when I moved to the US. The focus was all on grammar, and I think that if you don’t use the language on regular basis in a casual setting, it’s just hard for it to come naturally. :)

I have a soup or salad story, too! Years ago when one of my high school friends and I went out to lunch, the waitress asked my friend if she wanted a soup or salad and my friend was convinced she was saying “super salad” and kept asking questions about what made is super LOL

I really love these palettes so much. It might be because it’s the winter time and I just don’t feel like getting out of bed to begin with, but I have been having a heck of a time getting myself to sit down and do my makeup. I just want to sleep forever, roll out of bed and go to work. These seem like such easy, no-brainer type palettes that you can whip a look up quick!

Ohh I feel for your language transition! I moved to Canada from Lithuania but thankfully when I was 5 years old… so the “mute” year I had is easier to forget :) Although I still have a few haunting memories of those first few years haha..

I love anything Body Shop but haven’t yet tried their makeup – these palettes are definitely intriguing! Will scope them out on my next shopping trip Xx

My brother was about 5-6 when we moved and it was such an easy transition for him. He actually barely speaks polish now haha :)

      These palettes are super pretty!

Those swatches! They really look incredible, and I love how “earthy” they are. I had no idea that English wasn’t your first language, your writing skills are really amazing!

They look like really great everyday palettes – the swatches look even and quite pigmente which is great! Being The Body Shop means they’re quite affordable too – thanks for sharing Paula :)

We love Earth tones and these eye shadows are so pretty! They look like so much fun to use and that they can easily be taken from day to night by adding some more dark tones!

That is the cutest story! My grandmother is 1st generation American from Cuba, and she says sayings in Spanish (translated to English) that sound INSANE in English, but I get the idea haha. The Body Shop has really done a good job improving their makeup line, it seems. I will have to check it out soon! I hear good things about their liquid lipsticks, too.
