Winter Self-Care Ideas Officially, it might have just begun, but I’m already so over Winter. You know, juuuust a little bit. I was driving home from work the other day and couldn’t help but think to myself “holy shit this looks so beautiful!” The freezing rain from the night before transformed all the trees into these enormous, fairytale-like crystals that sparkled in the Sun. Then I got home, got out my car and thought “holy shit it’s freezing I can’t take this!!” It’s not that I don’t like Winter. I’m probably not alone in saying that I don’t always love cold weather though. Most days are all good, but there are times when being buried underneath all kinds of layers of clothing drives me a little crazy. It’s freezing cold outside, then you walk into a supermarket or a drugstore and it’s like 100 degrees. You walk around and start getting hot, only to walk out in the cold again a few minutes later. If you have dry skin, that’s another thing you need to pay extra attention to. Otherwise, the dry, cold air makes you feel like your skin is yet another layer of clothing. One that kind of […]

Ahh, that glow that us beauty and makeup lovers just looove to talk about. It’s a little harder to come by during winter, isn’t it? My skin notoriously hates cold temperatures and dry air and… well, winter altogether. I personally don’t mind it too much, but I gotta say that things often seem much more effortless and simple during warmer parts of the year. You spend more time out in the fresh air, you move more, you reach for fresh veggies more often and you drink a ton of water because it’s just “so hot today!” All of that combined makes that “glow” just a little easier to get. In winter, everything seems a bit more complicated. I mean, I literally have to use an app to remind myself to stay hydrated and drink water. I think that for me, at least, bringing some of that glow back into my life is not just about “looking pretty.” It’s also a form of self-care of sorts. Sometimes the weather just gets to me, and I kind of just want to bury myself in layers and layers of cozy loungewear and wool socks, hiding those pale legs of mine. All while also trying […]

The other day I was at Lush stocking up on some of my favorite bath bombs. A rare occurrence for me, actually entering the mall, one of my least favorite places. The weather was pretty bad and all I dreamed about all day, was taking a long, warm bath. So, I had to do the unthinkable and actually stop by the store on my way home. As I chatted with the girl who was checking me out at the register, we both started complaining about the crazy weather we’ve been embracing lately. “I’m so ready for summer,” I said. “Giiirl!” she started laughing “we’re a long way from Summer!” That we are, aren’t we? Still, seeing what other parts of the country have to deal with, I try to remind myself that we don’t have it that bad, here in North Jersey. As a kid, I loved snow days as that usually meant no school and staying in, enjoying the coziness and being a little lazy. Then you grow up and have to deal with shoveling, being on the road when you can’t avoid it (seriously, what is it with bad weather and everyone suddenly forgetting how to drive?). Once in […]

10 Beauty Tips for Winter The following content includes gifted products (*) and referral links. Read my disclosure policy for more info. Winter always proves to be a difficult time for my skin. Although the last couple of weeks were unusually warm (which has kind of become a norm now), it’s once again getting pretty cold. For me, this means dry, itchy skin, which is not fun. When it comes to these beauty tips for winter, there’s more to it than just adding a richer moisturizer to your routine. You have to find not only which products work best for you but also take your routine and lifestyle into consideration (like your diet, how much time you tend to spend outdoors in the cold weather, etc.). These are some of the things that help me get through winter while feeling more comfortable, without having to scratch the life out of my skin. 10 BEAUTY TIPS FOR WINTER HYDRATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT Keeping your body hydrated is important all year long, but we must pay special attention to this during colder months. In winter, we tend not to eat as many fresh fruit and vegetables as we do during summer and we also […]

It’s no secret that I have a thing for candles. I’ve always loved candles that have a nice, strong throw. I just love burning a candle right after I clean the house, while I’m cooking, when I’m writing, when I’m editing, reading a book… Probably the only time I don’t burn candles this time of year is when I’m sleeping. Don’t worry though, I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to those things, and always check every room before going to bed- just to make sure I’ve put out my candles. Lately, though, I’ve been really struggling with my meds and extreme nausea. This means that I can’t even leave my Bath and Body Works favorites (like Winter or Eucalyptus Mint) opened, as their cold throw alone is way too strong for me right now. So, in today’s post, I’ll talk about few winter favorites that are on the delicate side, and won’t induce a headache. If you love a good strong throw, Bath and Body Works candles are of course great, but I also love DW Home and Scentsational– if you can spot them at your local HomeGoods, grab as many as you can because they’re […]
