Few weeks a go, I told you all just how much I love Pixi’s Natural Contour Powder in Shape and Shadow. That is why I was really excited to try their Natural Contour Kit*.
This limited edition palette comes with four flawless face shades and eight essentials eyeshades. Two of the face shades are matte, while two have a slight shimmer to them; five of the eyeshadows are matte and two are shimmery (technically, there are three, since black has a slight shimmer to it, however, it does not show up when applied).
This is how Pixi recommends to use this palette:
FACE
1.Blend contour powder into hollows of cheeks, down sides of nose and under jawline
2. Buff-blend bronzing powder onto cheekbones
3.Apply brightening powder to areas you want to enhance (top of cheeks, lids and temples)
4. Use highlighting powder to bring out browbones, cheekbones, and cupid’s bow
EYES
1. Apply lid color as a base all over eye
2. Shape & contour with mid-tone coloors, blending into eye socket
3. Use a deep hue to define lash line – use wet or dry
4. Lighten up with matte highlights on browbone & inner corner of eye, then add a a shimmering shade in the center of lid for a glowing, wide-awake effect.
Face shadesEye shadows
What I like about this palette:
-it’s a great multitasker that has pretty much everything you need to create a subtle contour/highlight and a defined eye look
-great for natural-looking countour, but it can also be build up to a more intense contour
-the formula is very creamy and smooth (it almost feels like a cream-to-powder) the eyeshadows remind me of Tartelette palette, but these are slightly less pigmented
-it’s a great “everyday” palette
-I love every single one of the eye shadows, there are great crease and base colors in here
-every single color is wearable which means I’ll be getting a lot use out of this beauty
What I don’t like:
-while the packaging is pretty and quite sturdy, I kind of wish that it came with a mirror- it would then be an ideal travel companion
-because the formula is so creamy, you have to be careful not to over-blend the product (especially with the contour shades) otherwise, they can end up looking a bit muddy
-it seems that shimmery shades are a bit more pigmented than the matte ones, which I think is a bit unusual
I think that the keyword to remember with this palette is “Natural”. Even though in my swatches two of the bronzing/contouring shades look a bit dark, once they blended they actually look much more natural. I love how smooth and creamy the formula of these is, I just have to keep in mind not to use heavy blending with the face powders, because they can look a bit chalky, so light-hand is the way to go! Other than that, I love this little palette!

November 3, 2015 at 1:58 pmI think the shades are so nice and perfect for contouring especially since they don’t look orange like some other contour shades.

November 5, 2015 at 12:32 pmI also really love how natural and subtle these are, I don’t think it’s too easy to find such natural-looking powders when it comes to contour and definition products.

November 3, 2015 at 6:01 pmGreat review, as always! I’ve been looking for a natural face contouring palette. The one I had my eye on was the Sephora Smashbox palette, but it was a bit pricey so I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for others! How much does it cost? It looks wonderful!

November 5, 2015 at 1:07 pmOh I love Pixi! :)
The brush is Perfecting Polisher Brush and it’s sold exclusively at Bloomingdale’s (http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/yves-saint-laurent-perfecting-polisher-brush-100-bloomingdales-exclusive?ID=1467453) so I’m not sure if it’s available in Australia! :( I do love it though, especially as a highlighter brush!

November 5, 2015 at 4:22 pmThanks for sharing! Ahhh the problems of usually not having makeup items over here!
We have a similar version at our local department store called Myer (http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/no-2-perfecting-polishing-brush-156384910-156385090) but if I can’t find it here, I’ll grab it when I’m in NYC next month xx

November 4, 2015 at 8:20 amI’m not sure how I feel about the face colours as I am darker, I don’t think they’d suit me so much. They do look creamy and pigmented, however, which is always a plus! I’ve only tried Pixi’s eye makeup which have been great so far so it’s no surprise this palette is pretty good too.

November 5, 2015 at 1:28 pmOh yes, this is definitely suited for lighter skin tones, I wish it came in different shades! I think it’s really difficult to find a good contour powder/kit that looks natural on skin tones, that’s why I’m loving this one so much!

November 7, 2015 at 5:00 pmI’m new to contouring. Can someone please explain how to use this palette?
Paula @ lifestylegleam.com
November 7, 2015 at 6:18 pmHey Kelly, see this tutorial to see how to contour with powders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo8L4mQLeEU The dark face powders in this palette are for contouring and lighter ones are for highlighting. This particular palette has powders that are very natural-looking so they won’t look too intense on your skin tone, which means that they are great for a beginner or someone who prefers a natural-looking contour! ;)

April 19, 2016 at 6:44 amHow does the contour shade in the palette compare to Pixi’s individual contour shade? Thanks in advance!!
Paula
April 19, 2016 at 7:43 amI’m guessing that you mean the Natural Contour Powder in Shape and Shadow? The Shape and Shadow is slightly cooler and completely matte- the contour shade in the palette has more of a sheen finish, but both work really well with lighter skin tones.

April 19, 2016 at 9:51 amYes, that’s exactly the one that I meant…sorry for not being more specific/ direct from the get-go, & thanks so much for your super speedy reply! I only came across your blog when looking for reviews/swatches on the palette (after seeing it on clearance on the Pixi site) & have already enjoyed several posts, esp as I too am quite fair skinned. I have a contour powder that I LOVE – the Kevyn Aucoin; I actually wrote you about it under your post re: the Pixi Natural Contour Powder – but suppose I’m wanting to make sure there isn’t a more budget-friendly option before I sign on for lifelong repurchases of the Kevyn Aucoin:). That said, if I try several less pricey items they will add up to if I had just gone for the KA in the first place, so Having tried several pre-KA that were okay but not great for me, I’m being super selective about trying any others, especially if I can’t first swatch them &/or don’t have the option to return. Decisions, decisions. I did also just received a contour face palette (light/medium version; 4 pans comprised of highlight, blush, bronzer, & contour) in my Pop Sugar Must Have box – by a new brand “ISH”- & though I’ve only given it one go beyond swatching, the contour shade may very well be in the running for runner-up to my beloved KA Sculpting Powder, albeit in the end I’m not sure if the palette’s retail price will make it much less than the KA. ah well. Thanks again for the quick reply! I look forward to checking out more of your blog:)
