Ever come across a product that makes you say “where has this been all my life?!”? Oscar Blandi’s Dry Heat Protect Spray happens to be one of those gems.
I gotta say that I haven’t had much luck with heat protecting sprays in the past. They all seemed to leave my hair feeling a bit sticky and instead of a smooth and glossy finish I always ended up with lots of buildup in my hair that 9 out of 10 times left it looking dull and dirty. Oscar Blandi’s Dry Heat Protect Spray is a game changer.
I knew that this spray will be different than anything else that I’ve used before because it’s an aerosol spray. It goes on dry, and feels almost powder-like. There is no wet or sticky residue, it’s absorbed almost instantly. If there is one thing that really annoys me when styling my hair, is the fact that I the heat protectants leave my hair feeling a little wet and sticky and (despite me waiting for it to dry) as soon as my straightener or other hot tool touches my hair, I hear it sizzle as loud as turkey bacon on a frying pan on Sunday morning. This always made me go “okay.. I know this is supposed to help, but it really feels like my hair is frying right now”.
This dry spray is different in so many ways. My hair is definitely on a thick side so styling it can be a bit challenging. I’ve been using it for few months now and I can really say that it cuts my styling time in half. I find that I don’t have to keep going over and over each section to get that smooth finish (this also reduces the heat damage). I really didn’t like straightening my hair because it always ended up looking a little broom-like; smooth on top and dry and very brittle at the ends. Now that my hair is so much longer, I can finally rock that smooth, sleek, pin-straight look and it’s all thanks to this dry heat protect spray.
I do have to say that this spray is a bit pricey: $23.00 for 4 oz (113 g), but it does last for a good while. I’ve read a few reviews on this product and a lot of people reviewing it didn’t seem to realize that this is not a dry shampoo and complained about its ineffectiveness. Go figure. A few girls also said that this left their hair feeling a little sticky, I honestly don’t know how it’s possible as it does quite the opposite for me (everyone’s hair is different though, gotta admit that) but I do have to say that less is always more! When it comes to hair styling products you always, always have to use them very sparingly as they all build up quickly and once you’ve used too much your hair will, indeed, turn into sticky or oily mess and there’s only one way to get rid of it: wash your hair.
Another thing worth mentioning; this spray smells like lemon-scented floor cleaner. I personally don’t mind the smell because it doesn’t linger on, but it is quite powerful at first.. I guess you just can’t have it all :) .
Sorry for the potato quality of this photo (taken with my phone), but I just wanted to show you how smooth my hair looks when straightened using this product. I also didn’t use any hair spray or other finishing products and my hair stayed just as smooth for the next two days. What’s not to love?

October 21, 2014 at 12:12 pmI always put in a heat protect spray, but I think you’re right! It totally makes my hair feel super sticky :/ not cool! And it does sizzle, which is a bit scary for sure. This sounds amazing! Funny how people think it’s a dry shampoo! :)

October 21, 2014 at 1:15 pmI hate the sound of sizzling hair. It’s so unappealing & makes me want to not kill my hair. That said, this spray sounds like the perfect way to not burn your hair. :] // itsCarmen.com

October 22, 2014 at 8:16 amI have to admit that I very rarely use heat protectant sprays for the same reason, they usually leave my hair feeling like it hasn’t even been washed and the sizzling and smoke that comes off when anything touches it scares me slightly. This sounds impressive though, I’m tempted although it is a tad pricey for me :) xx

October 22, 2014 at 10:11 amThat was one of the reasons why I didn’t like styling my hair, just couldn’t find a good heat protecting spray. Ehh I know! Sucks when good products like this one are on the pricey side :(

October 27, 2014 at 10:15 pmOh gosh, I know that sizzling sensation haha.. happens to me all the time but mainly because I’m too lazy to let my hair dry properly before using my straightening iron ie. self inflicted ;) I’m so glad you found this wondrous product Paula, it sounds incredible! Not often that I use products like these as I’ll admit I’m a total novice when it comes to haircare, but whenever I have, I’ve experienced the same wet and sticky feelings you described. So fantastic that this really works and keeps promises. And God damn! That photo of you is ST-UNN-ING! I can’t stop looking in awe at it (stalker alert haha) really, really, really pretty and gorgeous and just… a total beauty love! So glamorous, glossy and gorgeous! Told you! Beautiful, through and through! <3
