OPI Pretty Pink Preserves

OPI infinite shine pretty pink preserves

OPI infinite shine pretty pink preservesI know what you might be thinking… another pastel pink, really? I’m still searching for the one, and had really high hopes for OPI Pretty Pink Preserves.

So this might have been a bit of a fail, because when I bought this nail polish, I had no idea that it was a part of a three-step system (you’d think that the tiny number “2” on the bottle would make me wonder.. well.. it didn’t). The Infinite Shine system from OPI promises to deliver gel-like shine, without the UV light and includes a primer-step 1, color-step 2 and a top coat-step 3. As you have probably figured out by now, I only bought the color, but I tend to use my favorite base coat from Essie regardless of the nail polish I’m using. As far as the top coat goes, I do have a few other lamp-free gel top coats, “Diamond” one from Revlon being a favorite of mine. If I realized that this came as a three-step system I probably wouldn’t have bought all three anyway, as they are quite expensive- around $13.00 each.

I absolutely love this color, I think that it’s obviously quite similar to Essie’s Fiji and Sally Hansen’s Pink a Card, but I’d say that it’s slightly less pinky. That would pretty much sum up everything I like about this nail polish. The formula of this is so thin, I had to use four, yes FOUR coats to get an even coverage. In addition to it being very thin, it’s also quite streaky and overall difficult to work with. This is pretty much Essie’s Fiji all over again-if you remember my review, then you know that color is also a pain to apply. OPI Pink Preserves also took a bit long to dry as well. In addition to that, even after sealing it with a top coat, it chipped on the second day :| . As much as I love the color, I feel like this has been a bit of a disappointment although I do have to say that that I’m digging the shiny finish, even though I used a different top coat than recommended.

The color is gorgeous! I’ve been looking for a color like this the ones I usually see in stores don’t have a good formula, like this one I’d need to apply several coats and I don’t like it! Xx

4 coats!! wow, that nail polish doesn’t sound easy to work with in the slightest even if it is a really pretty shade xx

There’s no such thing as too many pastel pinks, right?! :D
I love the idea of the no UV light thing, but totally agree with you, that if there is no need in getting the 3 step, what’s the point?
The shade is beautiful yet the application seems annoying! I just about can deal with doing 2 coats, 4? No way, jose! To think that it’s OPI, they shouldn’t have let this happen!
Either way, enjoy it while it lasts! :D

I wonder why it’s so hard for companies to make pastel/light nail polish opaque? It always seems to be a problem.

I love this shade, so pretty but using 4 coats to get it is not worth the price tag so I can see why you’re disappointed. I would also loose my patience after 2 coats haha x

I have gotten this color a few times at the nail salon as part of the gel system and really love it – I agree the color is so pretty and a close dupe for Essie’s Fiji!! p.s. your nails are gorgeous! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

It looks so pretty! I want to try it :) Been really impressed with my OPI polishes, they don’t chip easily and stays on for several days!
