NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

Ever come across a product that has a great potential, but isn’t quite there? This is exactly the case with NYX’s Honey Dew Me Up Primer.

Few months a go I pinned an image of this gorgeous-looking product by NYX and thought that once again I missed on something that was most likely a limited-edition release, since I didn’t remember seeing it anywhere. I recently bought a few things on Ulta.com and noticed that Honey Dew Me Up Primer by NYX was not only in stock but also on sale for $10.00 (original price being $17.00). Of course, I ended up buying it.

First thing that I need to mention is the packaging of this primer. It’s so beautiful, but unfortunately, not very practical. I just really, really don’t like the idea of the spatula-like applicator. The product itself has a bit of a sticky formula (think, watered-down honey) but not sticky to the point where it would adhere to the spatula nicely. This would work A LOT better if it came in a tube or with a pump packaging.

This primer really is more similar to a serum in my opinion. It has some pretty awesome skin-loving ingredients like honey, collagen, hyaluronic acid and Jasmin flower extract, but it also contains denatured alcohol that can cause some serious dryness (it’s the 3rd most concentrated ingredient). Nonetheless, I loved the way this felt on my skin. Despite having a sticky formula it absorbed quickly and my skin felt incredibly smooth and supple and I also noticed that it reduced the redness on my skin (I think this will be awesome during summer time, too). I tried using this both directly under my foundation and under a moisturizer followed by a foundation (like I would with a serum) and I think that it works even better with a moisturizer used on top of it. My makeup went on very smoothly, it looked bright and illuminated.

Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that this is formulated with light reflective gold flecks, which sounds fancy, but may be a bit pointless. I find that those gold flakes just sit on top of the skin so it looks like you’ve got a pieces of glitter stuck to it. They don’t seem to dissolve or absorb into the skin.

I really like this serum and what would make me love it would be different packaging (and perhaps using a different ingredient in place of alcohol. I think that NYX would do so much better if this serum (I know I keep calling it serum instead “primer”, but I honestly think of this as a serum, not a primer) came with a pump or in a tub. Us girls tend to buy beauty products just because “they look pretty”, but pretty packaging isn’t always everything.
