“Do you hear the sirens? Has someone called CODE BLUE on your hair?” I’ve been trying to grow out my hair for a while now and it’s been going pretty good, except for those days when my hair just seems to have a mind of its own and turns into a dry mess. I don’t even know why I insisted on coloring my hair few months ago, knowing very well that I’m allergic to all hair dyes (even the ones free of ammonia). I really like my natural hair color, but always felt a bit more comfortable with a darker shade.
Looking back at the pictures from my early days in college, I can’t believe how long and luscious my hair was. You know, people always say “oh, it’s hair, it’ll grow back”. Well duh, I know that, but why does it have to take so damn long? I’m at this awkward stage where my hair isn’t long or too short, sort of like in between. I can’t be bothered with hair extensions so I decided to just do my best to keep my hair healthy and let it grow naturally. I stopped treating it with heat (okay, maybe once a week I do happen to use a styling tool, but I always use protection ;) ), take my biotin and fish oil religiously, I massage my scalp and try not to put too much stress on my hair. Despite all my efforts, sometimes my hair still ends up looking… unhealthy to say the least.
I have a few hair masks that I like to treat my hair to. More recently, I’ve been testing Not Your Mother’s Intensive Hair Unit Renewal Treatment- an express hair treatment that I got in my Summer 2014 Allure Beauty Box. It is a recovery therapy for troubled hair that nourishes, moisturizes hair and tames frizz. Even though when I used it for the first time I really didn’t like it, I decided to give it another chance and can honestly now say that it is, indeed, a great product.
This treatment is supposed to be applied sparingly on hair that is shampooed and rinsed well. Following the application the product is left for about 2-3 minutes and then rinsed. I think that the reason why I ended up not liking the product at first, was the fact that I conditioned my hair before using the treatment and maybe didn’t do that good of a job when rinsing it out. Even though the directions do not specify whether or not to use a conditioner (all it says is “Apply a small amount in palms and work through hair that has been washed and well rinsed”), I decided to skip it when trying it out for the next few times. That seemed to do the trick. As soon as I towel-dried my hair I noticed that it feels and looks different, it felt incredibly soft and it wasn’t tangled at all. When I woke up the next day, my hair looked great, it wasn’t weighed down, it was so smooth and soft that I couldn’t stop touching it.
Few other things that I like about this Renewal Treatment are the formula and the packaging. The formula is so easy to work with, but has a very distinctive and rather strong smell. I read a few reviews where girls said that they hated the smell-and I can see why, it is quite… original-but I wasn’t really bothered by it. I’m pretty sure that the smell of this treatment reminds me of some sort of baby product. And the packaging? Not only is it cute and adorable but also very convenient, since it has a pump. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had trouble opening a hair mask jar in a shower because, obviously, my hands were wet.
Have any of you tried Not Your Mother’s products?

June 23, 2014 at 2:58 pmThanks so much Sophie! Love that color too, it’s my fave NYX Matte AUDREY lipstick and it’s the only one I’ve been reaching for lately.
Haha, yeah my hair doesn’t need too much love to look healthy, I just wish I was more motivated to style it. Usually I just put it up and that’s it! Lazy, I know.
