Ever since I visited a camera store few weeks ago and held the gorgeous Canon 70D in my hands, I knew I had to have it.
My Canon 60D is (or was) a wonderful, wonderful camera but one thing that it didn’t do, was auto focus during filming videos. That was pretty much the primary reason why I liked the 70D so much (the main “breakthrough” improvement in the 70D is the video and live-view auto focus, it also has a higher ISO range, a touch screen, wi-fi and a bunch of other improvements I probably don’t understand). The thing with technology nowadays is that it progresses at such a rapid speed, it’s insane. Being that 70D came out a while ago, I wondered if maybe I should wait until the next model is announced, but ultimately I decided against it. I sold my 60D to a family member and even though it was hard to say goodbye (come on guys, we went through a lot together..) at least I know she’s in good hands and hey, I’m sure we’ll get to see each other once in a while :P .
Since kit lenses were never much use to me anyway, I decided to save some money and buy the camera body only. I’d rather save more money and buy a better quality lens later on. I only had the 70D for about a week, so I’m still getting used to it, but so far I love it. It will undergo the ultimate test later this week when I film a new video.
Another addition to my gear is Canon 40mm f/2.8, also called the “pancake” lens. This baby has been on my wishlist since last year. My hubby decided to surprise me with an early Christmas gift and that’s how this cutie joined the family. I know, I just called a camera lens cute, but just look at it! Similar to my “nifty fifty” this is is a fixed lens, meaning it won’t zoom in or out, and you’re the one who has to do the “work” by getting closer or further from your subject. I love how small, compact and versatile this lens is. Because it’s so small and light, I imagine that it’s great to travel with. I haven’t had much time to play around with it, so I can’t say much more about it just yet, but I’m so excited to learn more over the next couple of weeks!

December 9, 2014 at 6:23 pmMy camera (or lens or something) doesn’t auto-focus either! It drives me nuts. I still try to make it work though. I love Canon cameras :)

December 12, 2014 at 11:56 pmI have a Canon 700D and absolutely love it! I haven’t been able to invest in another lens than the kit one. However, my next investment will be the 50mm f1.8! :) I can’t wait to see the results of your pancake lens!
