Best moisturizing lip balms for Winter
Unlike your skin, your lips do not have oil glands and the only source of natural moisture is saliva inside the mouth. If you want to keep your lips from becoming dry, you need to use a lip balm which acts as a barrier between your lips and the environment.
Are your lips a mess in the Winter? This is often a result of cold weather, wind and indoor heating. Having suffered from chronically dry lips for as long as I can remember means that I’ve tried and used a ton of different lip conditioning products, and today I’ll talk about few of my favorites.
Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm– at $36 it might seem like this lip balm is severely overpriced, but for someone who suffers from chronically dry lips like me, this is worth every penny. I remember the very first time I bought this I was very skeptical, but the Chanel makeup artist that helped me at Macy’s Chanel counter insisted that I am going to love it. She was right- Rouge Coco Baume is one my favorite lip conditioning products I’ve tried. This lip balm has a high-gloss but non-greasy finish and is very moisturizing. I’ve used it for years now, and I always keep coming back.
Glossier Balmdotcom– hypoallergenic, multitasking salve that provides a long-lasting moisture that lasts for hours.
Smith’s Rosebud Salve– loved by many celebrities like Beyoncé this salve is ahh-mazing. It’s budget friendly, smells lovely and brings an instant relief to dry and cracked lips. I also love using this on my cuticles as well. I have at least three of these- one in my car, one in my bag and one on my nightstand.
Butter Elixir Lip– perfect for softening and hydrating your lips, this balm is packed with cardamon and vanilla as well as soy bean argan and sunflower oils. It doesn’t feel heavy and is perfect to use during colder weather.
Dior Addict Lip Glow Sheer Balm– this is my go-to for those no-makeup makeup days. In addition to being very nourishing it also adds a gorgeous glow to my lips. You can fund my review and swatch right here.
Dior Crème de Rose– a cult classic and one of my favorites (another balm I’ve been using for years). Infused with anti-aging complex of rose of camas essential oil, vitamins A and E and Shea butter, this is my favorite balm to use during the day and prior to application of matte lip products. It also contains SPF 10. Find my review here.
Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips– you may have noticed that I mention this balm quite a lot here on the blog. I love Vaseline and this is basically just that, with an addition of tint and fragrance. I also like to think of this little balm as a budget-friendly alternative to Crème de Rose. As much as I love this, I really wish that it came in a different, more convenient packaging.
NUXE Rêve de Miel– this ultra nourishing lip balm is my next favorite right after the Chanel balm and Crème de Rose. It’s soothing, moisturizing, thick and my nighttime favorite. You can find my review right here.
Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Cream– this, of course is yet anther cult product and it’s also one of the most versatile ones as well: you can use to to tame your eyebrows, nourish your cuticles, rehydrate your lips, heal rough elbows- the list goes on and on. It calms, soothes, protects and hydrates skin for up to eight hours and it’s my absolute Winter must-have. If you ever wanted to give it a try, I’d definitely recommend the fragrance-free version, unless you don’t mind the somewhat strong, medicine-like smell.
In addition to having a good balm, I also recommend that you always protect your lips during the day by using a lip balm that has sunblock- especially if you’re planning on spending the day outdoors (snowboarding, skiing..). Two other things is to make sure that you’re hydrating during the day as well- dry lips is one of the signs of widespread body dehydration- and making sure that your diet is rich in essential fatty acids (dark leafy greens, walnuts, almonds, hemp, flax).
Have you tried any of these? If so, which one is your favorite?

December 18, 2015 at 12:04 pmI think I’m in the minority but I really didn’t like the Nuxe Reve de Miel! It just wasn’t hydrating enough for me and left me with gross white bits at the side of my mouth in the morning – too much information! I love Carmex and Burt’s Bees!

December 22, 2015 at 7:48 pmI think that the trick with that one is to use very little. I love Carmex too!

December 18, 2015 at 2:43 pmI’ve read really great reviews on Nuxe and Vaseline lip balms and both are in my list to purchase. I have quite a few lip balms to finish but once they are done, I’ll be picking both up to try.

December 19, 2015 at 5:22 amI can’t literally live without a lip balm, if I leave my house without having one in my handbag for any emergency I’m panicking, haha! For years I swore by Vaseline but in recent years I have discovered better options, Ren, La Roche-Posay, Nuxe and Dr PawPaw have been my favourite. xx
