As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to get my hands on it.
Usually, I definitely gravitate towards cooler-toned palettes, but as soon as this palette was announced and first pictures were released, I knew I had to get it. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance is a stunning palette with timeless colors. I don’t always feel comfortable wearing warm-toned colors, but these just looked way too beautiful for me to pass.
Here’s what ABH says about this palette:
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. An essential eye shadow collection featuring 14 shades, including neutral and berry tones. Use Anastasia Beverly Hills first permanent palette, Modern Renaissance to create endless looks for daytime and evening. Highly pigmented, easy-to-blend formula.
This palette includes 11 matte shades and 3 metallic ones. It also ncludes a dual-sided soft bristle brush.
Tempera – Velvety beige with an ultra-matte finish
Golden Ochre – Earthy yellow with an ultra-matte finish
Vermeer – Iridescent shell with a metallic finish
Buon Fresco – Antique lavender with an ultra-matte finish
Antique Bronze – Metallic sable with a satin finish
Love Letter- Raspberry with an ultra-matte finish
Cyprus Umber- Dark coffee with an ultra-matte finish
Realgar- Brick with an ultra-matte finish
Warm Taupe- Earthy gray with an ultra-matte finish
Venetian Red- Crimson with an ultra-matte finish
Red Ochre- Sienna with an ultra-matte finish
Primavera- shimmery gold dust with a metallic finish
Burnt Orange- deep orange with an ultra-matte finish
Raw Sienna- neutral amber with an ultra-matte finish
What I love:
-the packaging is beautiful, love the dual-ended brush included here
-the colors in this palette are stunning. My favorites are Warm Taupe, Buon Fresco, Red Ochre and Realgar.
-in addition to warm neutrals there are also a few pinks and reds perfect for adding a little pop of color
-these eyeshadows are very nicely pigmented, long-lasting, and apply nicely
-the consistency of most of the shadows is smooth
-all colors included in this palette work really well with each other
What I don’t love:
-brighter colors like Love Letter need to be packed on to show off as bright as they do in a pan, but they do blend easily and are easy to work with. The texture of Love Letter was a bit rough and not as smooth as others.
-the texture of these isn’t as creamy as with my other palettes, it’s a bit more powdery. I don’t think that this is necessarily a bad thing, especially if you have oily lids. Creamier formulas aren’t always as long-lasting as these shadows on my oily lids. The only problem with this is that the palette gets messy very easily.
-the shelf-life of this palette is 6 months, which I found a bit shocking. There’s no way that I’ll use it all up within next few months, so if you have sensitive eyes or eyes that are prone to getting infected, I’d be careful.
I am loving this palette and it definitely left me feeling impressed. I don’t really have anything similar in my collection and I’m sure that I’ll get even more use out of it during colder months. Other than the fact that these expire after 6 months of opening, I don’t really have anything bad to say about this palette. I love that all of these work so nicely together and even though this palette is very warm-toned, it’s quite versatile.
What do you think? Did you get it? Do you have your eyes on it?

July 3, 2016 at 5:46 amSuch neat pretty swatches! I would definitely not use it up in six months so I think I might have to pass although some of the colours look absolutely beautiful!

July 3, 2016 at 6:19 amI want to get it because I love the Renaissance, ever since I learned more about it in Art History class 6 years ago..it’s one of my favorite time periods in art. I even visited Florence, even for 1 night (and Rome for 4 nights). However…I’m like…do I need another neutral palette? It is so so beautiful though.

July 3, 2016 at 8:16 amI really want this palette just because I’m seeing it everywhere and I particularly love the bottom row of shades, they’re so pretty. But a shelf life of 6 months when it’s lb41?! No thank you haha, think I will pass on this one x

July 5, 2016 at 8:34 pmYes, I didn’t notice that until I was editing this post. I don’t usually pay too much attention to expiration dates, because they’re usually around 24 months, so this was a bit of a shock.

July 3, 2016 at 7:04 pmThis palette is indeed gorgeous! I’m surprised at its shelf-life though, it’s so short! I’m the kind of person that would use a palette for years without even thinking about it haha.

July 5, 2016 at 8:46 pmHaha, same! The only reason I noticed it, was because it was in single digits. Usually a lot my products have a shelf life of 12-24 months, so I don’t really pay too close of an attention to that.
steff @ brighterdarling.com
July 3, 2016 at 11:10 pmI also picked it up immediately (but haven’t broken into it yet… I’m trying to control myself and really experiment more with my new items lately). I don’t understand how on earth it’s going to just turn bad in 6 months!? What the heck!? Sf_Stef on YouTube did a crazy in-depth review of this palette and also mentioned the 6 month thing. I just can’t believe it. I guess we’ll all see what happens in 6 months lol! Until then, I’m excited to have some fun with it in the upcoming fall/winter :) Glad to know you’re liking it, too!

July 5, 2016 at 8:48 pmRight? That is so strange, usually it’s closer to two years. I mean, it might be a good thing, meaning that the ingredients are more skin-friendly, or maybe it’s a typo haha :)

July 4, 2016 at 12:28 amWhen I first saw this I wasn’t sure how I felt about the colors, but with all the swatches and tutorials I’ve been seeing I can definitely understand why. I’m not big on eyeshadows so I’ll be skipping out on this, but I’ll be forever envious of gals who just work so well with eyeshadows. The 6 month shelf life is definitely shocking, and that makes me curious to look at all my palettes to see just what the shelf life is cause I didn’t think they were anywhere near that short. Beautiful photos as always though!

July 4, 2016 at 10:01 amThis palette is just stunning. Also your swatch game is amazing so neat. I cant believe you have to use it within 6 months, I always forget about make up having a shelf life.

July 5, 2016 at 8:58 pmWell.. you don’t “have to” haha but it certainly recommended ;) I’m sure I have quite a few “expired” products in my collection, but they usually last a lot longer than 6 months.

July 4, 2016 at 11:26 amI am loving this palette, everything from the formula to the shades. I had no idea it has a shelf life of 6 months!? That’s crazy, there’s no way anyone can use it up that quickly, hopefully it won’t affect my eyes or the quality won’t change x

August 2, 2016 at 3:28 pmWhen I first saw this palette was coming out I passed because of the red toned shadows. I didn’t want to look like a zombie, but the more hype it received I went ahead and jumped on the band wagon. I’m so glad I did because it is beautiful to play in right now and will last through the fall. The colors on the left are great for neutral gals and then on the right it’s fun to experiment. They all blend beautifully too! I didn’t even pay attention to the 6 month shelf life. The other bummer… I got the cover of my palette dirty already!
